Level 3 Diploma in Maintenance for Mineral Products Operations MPQC
This qualification is designed for individuals who carry out maintenance and/or fabrication activities on mobile and/or fixed plant. Typically Learners would be individuals who carry out maintenance activities in a range of applications based on experience and internal training with no formal qualifications.
Description
To achieve this qualification, learners must complete seven mandatory units and a minimum of one optional unit.
Completing this qualification demonstrates the learner's competence to carry out maintenance activities.
Qualification Process
The MPQC Level 3 Diploma in Maintenance for Mineral Products Operations is achieved through assessment in the work environment.
The process requires the Learner to demonstrate that he or she has the required knowledge and skills to carry out maintenance and/or fabrication on the static or mobile plant.
The qualification process would include a number of visits by one of our competent Assessors.
The first assessment visit will include an induction, to explain the process, as well as the Centre and Awarding Organisation’s policies, practices and procedures.
Each Learner will need to complete the following unit(s):
Mandatory Units – Must be achieved by all learners:
- Conform to General Workplace Safety and Security (GEN01)
- Conform to Efficient Working Practices in the Workplace (GEN02)
- Monitor and Maintain Environmental Conditions in Own Area of Responsibility (GEN03)
- Working Safely on Equipment in Mineral Products Operations (PM01)
- Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Work Environment (PM07)
- Diagnose and Determine Faults in Mechanical
- Equipment (PM02)
- Carry Out Maintenance on Mechanical
- Equipment (PM03)
In addition to the above mandatory units, Learners will need to complete a minimum of one optional unit in order to achieve this qualification.

- General Fabrication and Welding Applications (PM05)
- Inspect and Carry Out Maintenance on
- Compressed Air Systems (PM06)
- Inspect and Carry Out Maintenance on
- Hydraulic Systems and Components (PM08)
As part of the process, you will be required to answer a number of question papers (one for each unit), gather documents relevant to your role, such as risk assessments, health and safety procedures, check sheets, and operator handbooks, be observed diagnosing and determining faults, and carry out general maintenance!
Do not worry—you will plan each assessment visit with your Assessor to allow time to complete the required work!
When your assessor arrives on site, he or she will be looking to observe you carrying out your daily duties, asking questions about the tasks you carry out, looking at the documentation and getting you to explain the various processes and procedures.
On completion, the Centre will claim your certificate, which will be scanned, and a copy sent in advance of the original certificate.
Achievement of this qualification meets the eligibility criteria for candidates to register as
Engineering Technician (EngTech) with the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Do I need access to an operational facility?
Yes, you need access to an operational facility with the required resources, as the assessment phase is completed in the working environment.
- Operational facility examples: quarries, cement, asphalt (tar) plants or block works.
- Resource examples: crushing, screening, people/staff, vehicles, mobile plant, workshop, oils, lubricants.
How long does it take to complete?
These qualifications are led by the Learner, with support from their Assessor.
It’s hard to give an accurate time frame, as it will depend on a range of factors, such as the time the Learner can put into research and learning, completing work set by their Assessor, existing knowledge and experience, and workload.
We have outlined approximate time scales below; however, the time frame can be dramatically increased or decreased depending on the Learner and whether additional time is required to carry out further learning.

• MPQC Level 3 Diploma in Maintenance for Mineral Products Operations: 4 to 6 months
The minimum time frame within which this award can be completed is 4 weeks from the first assessment visit, which is set by the awarding organisation, which recommends a minimum time scale of 10 weeks.
