Description
Achievement of this qualification demonstrates competence by the learner to manage permitted waste facilities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland for Hazardous Waste Landfill (including Single Stream) activities.
The process requires the Learner to demonstrate he or she has the required knowledge and skills to manage a permitted waste management facility.
The qualification process would include a number of visits by one of our competent Assessors.
The first assessment visit will include an induction, to explain the process, as well as the Centre and awarding organisation’s policies, practices and procedures.
Each Delegate will need to complete the 8 Mandatory units listed below. They will also need to select one of the below pathways, containing a further 3 Mandatory units and 1 Optional unit, making the award 12 units in total:
Mandatory Units:
• Maintain health and safety in the waste and resource management industry (OCS01)
• Manage the environmental impact of work activities (OCS02)
• Provide leadership and management in the workplace (OCS04)
• Identify and implement improvements to waste management operations (OCS07)
• Control maintenance and other engineering operations (OCS08)
• Procedural compliance (OCS09)
• Manage and maintain systems for responding to emergencies (OCS10)
• Manage an inspection visit at your site from regulatory bodies (OCS65)
Pathway A - Hazardous Waste Pathway
Mandatory Unit Group:
The learner must complete all of the units from the following group:
• Manage the movement, sorting and storage of waste (OCS05)
• Manage the reception of hazardous waste (OCS11)
• Managing disposal operations of hazardous waste to land (OCS33)
Optional Unit Group:
The learner must choose one unit from the following group:
• Restore and prepare landfill sites for aftercare (OCS42)
• Develop restoration and aftercare schemes for hazardous landfill sites (OCS43)
• Prepare landfill sites for the acceptance of hazardous waste (OCS46)
Pathway B - Hazardous Waste Single Stream Pathway
Mandatory Unit Group:
The learner must complete all of the units from the following group:
• Manage the reception of hazardous waste on a single waste stream site (OCS14)
• Manage the movement, sorting and storage of waste on single waste stream sites (OCS18)
• Managing disposal operations of hazardous waste to land on a single waste stream site (OCS36)
Optional Unit Group:
The learner must choose one unit from the following group:
• Restore and prepare landfill sites for aftercare (OCS42)
• Develop restoration and aftercare schemes for hazardous landfill sites (OCS43)
• Prepare landfill sites for the acceptance of hazardous waste (OCS46)
As part of the process, you will be required to answer a minimum 12 question papers (One for each unit), gather documents relevant to your role such as risk assessments, environmental procedures, check sheets, permits, planning conditions and other such documents!
Don’t worry, you will plan each assessment visit with your Assessor to allow time to complete the work required!
When your Assessor arrives on site, he or she will be looking to observe you carrying out your daily duties, asking questions about the tasks you carry out, looking at the documentation and getting you to explain the various processes and procedures.
On completion, the Centre will claim your certificate, which will be scanned, and a copy sent in advance of the original certificate.
