Achievement of this qualification demonstrates competence by the learner to manage permitted waste facilities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland for the following site activities:
- Recovery of oil / organic solvents
- Hazardous clinical waste treatment
Bespoke and / or Standard Rules Permits: SR2008No25 and SR2013No1 (England and Wales)
Qualification Process
Achievement of this qualification demonstrates competence by the learner to manage permitted waste facilities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland for the following site activities:
- Recovery of oil / organic solvents
- Hazardous clinical waste treatment
The process requires the Learner to demonstrate he or she has the required knowledge and skills to manage a permitted waste management facility.
The qualification process would include a number of visits by one of our competent Assessors.
The first assessment visit will include an induction, to explain the process, as well as the Centre and awarding organisation’s policies, practices and procedures.
Each Delegate will need to complete the 10 Mandatory units listed below. They will also need to select one of the below pathways, containing 2 Optional units, making the award 12 units in total:
Mandatory Units:
• Maintain health and safety in the waste and resource management industry (OCS01)
• Manage the environmental impact of work activities (OCS02)
• Manage the movement, sorting and storage of waste (OCS05)
• Control work activities on a waste management facility (OCS06)
• Identify and implement improvements to waste management operations (OCS07)
• Control maintenance and other engineering operations (OCS08)
• Procedural compliance (OCS09)
• Manage and maintain systems for responding to emergencies (OCS10)
• Manage the reception of hazardous waste (OCS11)
• Manage an inspection visit at your site from regulatory bodies (OCS65)
Pathway A - Hazardous Waste
Optional Unit Group:
• Manage site operations at a waste thermal treatment facility (OCS51)
• Manage transfer and disposal from hazardous waste thermal treatment operations (OCS56)
Pathway B – Clinical Waste
Optional Unit Group:
• Manage site operations at a hazardous clinical waste thermal treatment facility (OCS52)
• Manage transfer and disposal from hazardous clinical waste thermal treatment operations (OCS57)
As part of the process, you will be required to answer 12 question papers (One for each unit), gather documents relevant to your role such as risk assessments, environmental procedures, check sheets, permits, planning conditions and other such documents!
Don’t worry, you will plan each assessment visit with your Assessor to allow time to complete the work required!
When your Assessor arrives on site, he or she will be looking to observe you carrying out your daily duties, asking questions about the tasks you carry out, looking at the documentation and getting you to explain the various processes and procedures.
On completion, the Centre will claim your certificate, which will be scanned, and a copy sent in advance of the original certificate.
